The Best Time to Schedule Newborn Photography in Atlanta

You might have a newborn photo of yourself in a hospital bassinette wrapped up in a blanket. That is what nearly every newborn photo looked like until parents decided they wanted something more creative and meaningful. James Hill certainly understands this as a father of three, himself. If possible, we recommend that you schedule the newborn portrait session in the last one to two months of pregnancy. Although babies come on their own timetable, this is the best way to ensure that you receive the timeframe you want. We will tentatively schedule the session for one week after the baby’s due date.

We recommend having your newborn’s pictures taken when he or she is less than two weeks old and preferably between five and 10 days. Newborns at this stage are still very sleepy and easier to pose than babies who are even a few days older. Additionally, it is common for flaky skin and baby acne to develop around two weeks of age. Babies tend to be awake longer after two weeks and it may be more challenging to get them to cooperate.

What to Expect with Your Newborn Photography in Atlanta

Keep in mind that your newborn photo session can take up to three hours. You will need to allow adequate time for your baby to eat as well as for changes of clothes. We keep our studio warm and low-key to ensure that the newest member of your family feels comfortable with us. You have the option of choosing a portrait package with your newborn alone or with various members of the family.

Possible Poses for Your Newborn

The advantages to working with babies who are only days old is that they are often more moldable than older children when it comes to posing. Here are some popular newborn poses you may wish to consider:

• Egg wrap: In this pose, we wrap a blanket around the outside of the baby while he or she lies face up showing all four limbs squeezed tightly together.
• Tuck in: Your baby lies underneath a comfortable down blanket wearing only a diaper. The photo shows the chest, arms, and head with many parents choosing to place a bow or hat on the baby’s head.
• Floral wraps: Wrapping a baby tightly in a wrap so only his or her head shows can make an endearing photo, especially when the newborn is sound asleep.
