The 5 P’s of Creating Maternity Photos Atlanta Moms Love!

Maternity Photographer - Atlanta ga

June 29, 2018

When clients contact us about maternity photos in Atlanta, we are always honored to be chosen to capture that very special part of their lives. Pregnancy is a beautiful process, full of hope and change, and maternity photos are designed to record that journey while also being the very beginning of a lifetime of photographs of your child. We use a variety of techniques to create maternity photos Atlanta moms love, but here are some of our “secrets”.

Posing

The right pose can make or break a photograph. When we do maternity photos Atlanta moms feel most comfortable in, we help our clients find the best pose for their body type. We look for positions that look and feel natural, while also drawing attention to your baby bump. In fact, Michelle used to work in front of the camera as a model, and over the years, she’s learned first-hand how important the right pose is and how to help sculpt our clients into the most flattering positions.Michelle Hill on Cover of JcPenny Spring 2006

Perspective

Posing is just the beginning. The perspective of your maternity photos also plays a big role in how your photos look. We take most of our maternity photos straight on from the subject, but we also shoot from above and below to draw attention to different elements and create a variety of impacts.

Props

The right props and settings also help to define our maternity photos. We do a lot of sessions near a window which emphasizes the ideas of new beginnings and looking forward as well as love and light. Sometimes, we use teddy bears or other objects brought in by the mom to show them thinking about their new baby, and little touches such as robes, lacy fabric, stools, and other props help us to create a variety of impressions.

In a lot of cases, moms-to-be don’t need props. We strip everything away, and we do discreet nude maternity photos or photos with just fabric. On the client’s request, we also like to integrate dads, siblings, or other family members into these photography sessions.

Personality

When you invest in maternity photos, you don’t want photography that reflects someone else’s ideas, and we understand that. Maternity photography is a very intimate and expressive type of portraiture, and we work with you to ensure that your photographs show off your personality.

Persistence

Some photographers, just shoot a couple of photographs, and they call it a day. That’s not how we work. We never rush through the situation or try to push our clients through the session if they’re not comfortable. Instead, we’re persistent about ensuring that every single photograph is perfect.

In fact, persistence is what ultimately lead to our career as a photography family. Over 20 years ago, when James first started doing photography, he spent days reading about how to take the most compelling photos, and he spent countless hours practicing. That persistence lead us to a point where now families from all over Atlanta invite us to take their maternity photos, their newborn photos, family photos, and senior photos. We hope that your family does the same.
